Incident Reporting

Information security is in everyone’s job description.  It is extremely important to immediately report any suspicious events or the loss of a resource with college data.

You can report an information security incident by phone by contacting the IT Service Desk at 956-872-2111 or by email to abuse@southtexascollege.edu.  Please provide us with as much information as possible to help us investigate.  Reference the procedures below to help you respond to some of our most common incidents.

  • Reporting a lost or stolen information resource that is either owned by the college or contains college data (e.g. laptop, flash drive, smartphone, etc.).
  1. Provide us with as much information about the resource as you can (e.g. brand, model, etc).
  2. Describe the location and time where you last had the resource in your possession.
  3. If there was a theft involved and you filed a police report, provide the case number and the police department where it was filed.
  4. Identify if it is personally-owned or college-owned.
  5. If the device is personally-owned, describe if it was used to access college email or store college data.
  • Reporting a suspicious message in your college email account.
Always Remember: Do not click on suspicious links.
  1. Send us an email to abuse@southtexascollege.edu.
  2. Add the suspicious message as an attachment (see instructions below) instead of forwarding the message as this provides us with additional information needed to identify the source of the threat.
