Office 365 + Duo Security MFA

Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) requires the use of more than one identity verification method and adds a second layer of security to user sign-ins and transactions.  South Texas College has integrated Duo Security MFA with Office 365 services (Email, OneDrive, SharePoint, Teams, etc.) to help provide extra security when accessing these resources from outside the college network.  O365 with Duo Security MFA works by requiring you to enter your username and password followed by one of the following verification methods:

  • The use of a mobile app (Duo Mobile) *preferred
  • The use of a Short Message Service (SMS) text
  • The use of a phone call
  • The use of a security token

NOTE:  The use of a Short Message Service (SMS) text or phone call is reserved for situations where the use of the mobile app or security token is not available.

Once MFA is enabled for your O365 account, follow the steps below to verify functionality:

  1. Open the Duo Mobile app on your smartphone and check the settings to make sure notifications are enabled.
  2. Sign in to your O365 account (https://outlook.com/southtexascollege.edu).
  3. Approve the login request when prompted by the Duo Mobile app.
